FAQ

  1. How long should my hair be in order to get waxed?

  2. The hair should be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch long for optimum results.

  1. Will it be painful?

  2. Each person experiences pain differently but, the large majority of our clients feel it is a very tolerable level of discomfort. You will feel a stinging sensation as it’s being pulled. Immediately after, the esthetician will apply pressure to the area with her gloved hand. The pain subsides a few moments after this.

  1. What if I’ve shaved within two weeks before my waxing appointment?

  2. Again, the hair must be at least 1/4 to 1/2 an inch long. It will take at least 3 to 4 weeks before the hair has grown to this length.

  1. What happens if i shave between waxes?

  2. Shaving is problematic for several reasons. Most people will experience skin irritation, and ingrown hairs from shaving. Also, shaving allows the hair follicle to strengthen, making it more difficult to remove the hair. This, in turn, results in a more painful experience for the client. It can also cause breakage, ingrowns, and uneven hair re-growth. When you shave you reverse the positive results of waxing. Waxing consistently, on a 4 week schedule, weakens the hair follicle over time, resulting in less hair growing back.

  1. How long will it take for the hair to grow back?

  2. This depends on each individual and how fast their hair grows. Typically, you will see the first sign of hair around 10 to 14 days after your wax. The hair won’t be growing back all at the same time, especially during the first few months of waxing. It also grows back softer and less densely. We recommend scheduling appointments every 4 weeks for ideal results. Some clients may need to come sooner, and some can go longer, but remember the hair should be at least 1/4 to 1/2 an inch long. *If the hair is longer than an inch, we recommend trimming, but not shorter than the recommended length.

  1. Can I get waxed while I’m pregnant?

  2. Generally, waxing during pregnancy isn’t a problem at all. We perform waxes on many clients while they’re pregnant. However, we always advise consulting your physician first.

  1. How should I care for my skin between wax appointments?

  2. It is important to refrain from any activity that involves friction and excessive perspiration, such as working out, for 24 hours. It’s also advised to avoid sex for 24 hours as well. You shouldn’t take a bath, get in a pool or hot tub, or submerge the waxed area in any form of water for 24 to 48 hours. Waxing exfoliates the skin, leaving you susceptible to infections. It is safe to take a shower. You should begin some form of exfoliation 48 to 72 hours after being waxed. This can be achieved by using a gentle scrub or exfoliating bath gloves.

  1. What if I’m taking Retin A, Renova, Accutane, or similar medications?

  2. These medications cause the skin to exfoliate rapidly, making it more delicate, sensitive, and easily injured. We cannot perform any waxing service if you have taken Accutane within the last year. These are not the only medications, ingredients, or products that can compromise safe results during waxing. Some others to be aware of are: Tazorac, Differin, Proactive, and Strivectin. Certain ingredients like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, as well as hormonal medications, radiation and chemotherapy drugs. We recommend checking with your doctor for guidance if you are using any medications that could compromise the integrity of the skin.

  1. What if I’ve been in a tanning bed?

  2. Any form of tanning, artificial or natural, compromises the skin. You cannot tan for two to three days before or after tanning. We also recommend waiting 24 hours after waxing before getting spray tanned.

  3.

  4. Also, please understand if the esthetician observes anything that she feels could compromise your health or safety, she may make the professional decision to discontinue the service.
